The Madela pump in style advanced is extremely comfortable and efficient. The pump is designed to mimic the way a baby would nurse with its two phase extraction process. In other words this pump starts with a gentle tug to stimulate the initial milk flow. Then the pump moves on to the full expression phase which is a stronger and longer suction. The second phase produces nearly all of the milk. You also have the option to shorten or lengthen the stimulation phase as you like.
As we mentioned above, this pump is very comfortable. Nearly all of the reviewers that used this pump mentioned it was one of the most comfortable pumps they have used. Using this pump may cause minor soreness around the nipple area, but this is common across all pumps. It typically just takes some time to get use to the pump.

What makes this pump so portable is that it is built right into the tote bag. It really makes the whole pumping process easier. Most breast pumps are awkward to move with all of the tubing. The Madela really solves that.
Another reason why this pump is so easy to move is that it takes 8 AA batteries. That may be an issue for some, but it helps that it doesn’t have to be hooked into the wall all the time. It does come with an AC adapter in case you run out of AA batteries.
Cons
One of the few issues with this breast pump is that it’s not easy to remove it from its tote bag. Although, its not designed to be taken out of the bag, so that shouldn’t really be an issue.
We also found that the Madela pump was a little noisy, but this is common for nearly any breast pump on the market. Honestly, the only way to have a pump that isn’t so noisy is by using a manual breast pump. The excessive noise may not work for you if you plan on pumping at night. Other than that, the noise isn’t too bad.
Many reviews on amazon mentioned that the pump built up condensation after being used. In some cases this lead to mold and mildew build up. It’s possible to replace the tubing for roughly $10 but it’s worth noting.
Lastly, the pump takes 8 AA batteries. That may or may not be an issue for you. Personally I think it’d be best if it were to have a rechargeable battery, but at least it doesn’t have to be plugged into the wall all the time.
Who is This Pump Best Suited For:
The pump works best with moms who pump regularly and during the day. If you’re a stay at home mom this pump will work great. If you’re the type of mom that likes to travel and take your pump with you the Madela is a great choice.
